Time has flown. Yesterday it was disco (sold pants and shoes long ago) and today is a different era. Running is an exersize that runners can only explain to other runners. Non-runners don't understand. Non-runners don't know why someone would jog those miles, travel, and pay entry fees to just run harder? 'For what purpose', they ask?
My opinion, I don't give a 'frogs' fat-ass what any non-runners opinion is on running. I am a runner, and I only care about the opinions of other runners. I have my goals, and I enjoy talking to other runners about their goals too. Runners are anyone that runs on a consistent basis and has a goal--this includes with two legs, and those with two legs in wheel-chairs.
In 2012, I turned 51 and I'm abit pissed about it. I keep seeing age as an excuse to tailor back on the workouts. To say things like, 'I ran good for my age'....phooey....At 49, I ran a 1:17 half-marathon....at 50, I ran a 1:18 and was satisfied? Another phooey....I will no longer be satisfied until I go for faster goals....as with any runner, no matter your time--you always want to run faster....
For runners in their 50s, we have choices....do we watch wrinkles form? Teeth get yellow? hair get greyer? bald spots forming? actually read the letters from AARP? think of retirement? watch Lawrence Welk reruns? Think Barney Fife is still funny? Wish we were stranded on Gilligans Island too?
No! Runners move and go forward. We are not stagnate and stale, and we don't live in the past!
I think Keith Richards looks good! I hope the old-fart keeps playing the guitar! Can't wait to see the next Stones concert. 70 year olds in tight leotards and prancing around singing Satisfaction.
I am going to run a 1:16 half....no matter what!
50 (+) year old runners, sets your goals and don't let age get in the way....
